I took my grandma to Tsukasa of Tokyo for a nice dinner to celebrate our birthdays. It was a great experience! The chef showcased his incredible skills with flair, turning the cooking process into a captivating performance. The atmosphere was lively and fun, making it an excellent place for the birthday celebration. The staff was attentive and friendly, checking up on us often. The food was incredible! I got the sesame scallops, and added a side of the golden sauce(which I HIGHLY recommend), and my grandma got the steak (she asked for rare), which she said was cooked perfectly/exactly to her liking.
I can not stress enough that Tsukasa of Tokyo in Vernon Hills is the BEST Hibatchi restaurant around. This cuisine used to be a huge hit in the 80’s and into the 90’s, and there were plenty of top restaurant to go around. But Hibatchi popularity has unfortunately dwindled over the decades as it’s too elaborate and costly for the masses. Alas, most resultants are mere remnants of what they used to be - the interiors are run down, the chefs are indifferent and the food is usually terrible. NOT TSUKASA! They are the only place in the Chicago area that I’m aware of that has the customer base and turnover to keep the food FRESH and the menu TASTY. We even have a “go-to” chef, (old) Max who is a phenomenal chef, has a great personality and talks a variety of subjects from sports, to nostalgia, to Chicago landmarks. He always remembers us and is great to grandma and the kids. We always get there early on the weekends as the place gets PACKED!! Hibatchi can be pricey, but in this case, it’s worth every penny. Great for the whole family and I highly recommend! I know so many kids that hate going to restaurants, but the ones we take for my own kids’ birthdays LOVE this joint. Enjoy!
In Chicagoland, this is my favorite hibachi experience. Had other competitors but Tsukasa of Tokyo does the best with its show, flavor, and food. Service can improve with waitress but other than that, we love the food. It gets super busy and loud, so if too much stimulation is a distraction or overwhelming for you, this place isn’t it. For all others who love this kind of stuff, go try it out!
This is a great place with a great selection of food, but there was one little problem - I DON’T LIKE JAPANESE FOOD, and you’re gonna ask me - “What are you doing in a Japanese restaurant if you don’t like Japanese food?”. Well that’s a good question and here’s the answer - I went there with my friend so yeah… Also don’t blame me for the bad food review, I just don’t like Japanese food. Everything else was pretty good.
We had such an incredible time at Tsukasa of Tokyo! The entire experience was vibrant, fun, and unforgettable—exactly what we were hoping for to celebrate a birthday. From the moment we walked in, the energy was great. The staff was friendly and welcoming, and the atmosphere was filled with laughter, sizzling sounds from the hibachi grills, and that signature excitement only a hibachi restaurant can deliver. The chef at our table was amazing—not only a great cook but also super entertaining! He had us laughing, cheering, and fully engaged throughout the entire meal. The tricks, flames, and interactive cooking made the dinner feel more like a performance than just a meal. The food itself was absolutely delicious—everything was fresh, perfectly seasoned, and cooked to perfection right before our eyes. From the tender steak to the perfectly grilled shrimp and flavorful fried rice, every bite was satisfying. We also tried a couple of their cocktails, which were fun and tasty. They were creative, well-balanced, and a perfect match for the lively vibe of the restaurant. Celebrating a birthday here was a fantastic idea. The staff made sure it felt special, and the whole experience was memorable from start to finish. If you’re looking for a place that combines great food, fun energy, and a little show with your meal, Tsukasa of Tokyo is absolutely worth it. We’ll definitely be coming back!
Had an amazing experience, from the service to the food quality all top notch. Our server who’s also the bartender treated us to some green tea shots on the house after our meal which were delicious. Also, highly recommend the pink martini drink. Very exited to be back.
